Good Saturday Morning,
We have been working on the long u sound and endings (ing, ed, and s) to words in Heggerty and Guided Reading Centers. The kids are finishing up Unit 10 in Fundations. We will be taking our Unit 10 test on Tuesday on sounds, words, and sentences. The class is finishing up our biography during Teacher Led Reading and will start a new chapter book this week.
The children are working on writing a series of realistic fiction stories following our Lucy Calkins' curriculum. Students are finishing up Unit 8 in Math and will be taking their Cumulative and Post Test on Monday and Tuesday. We will begin our "America" Unit in Social Studies, complete a new Scholastic News magazine, and continue discussing how to be leaders, understanding and carrying out good communication skills, and making good personal choices. In Science, the class will continue learning about living plants and animals through our Science experiments and Mystery Doug videos.
On Wednesday, we will be having rotations with the other First Grade classes and teachers. Students will take part in educational, fun spring activities in each of the seven First Grade classrooms. Students will also have some of their Specials this next week: Computers, Music, P.E., and Art. The children will not have school on Thursday for a Teacher's Institute (teachers will be in a training all day), on Friday or Monday due to the Easter holiday. Everyone will return to school on Tuesday, April 23.
Enjoy your week and have a Happy Easter! Mrs. J. Zimmermann
