I hope this finds you all having a relaxing, rainy Saturday. Twenty-five school days and counting for the kids. Hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end. The students are having a fun time with the "ABC Countdown" activities. Yesterday afternoon we also used our extra recess that Mr. Webber bought for our class at the "Central Trojan Gala." Check out our class "Twitter" page (the link is at the top of this page) for new pictures and videos of the kids having a great time on the playground.
The kids will have art, p.e., library, music, and computers this next week. We will continue working on magic (silent) e in words. We will also practice saying and writing letters, real words, nonsense words, our new sight words for the week, trick words, unit words, and sentences. We want to make sure we are capitalizing the first letter of the first word, capitalizing a person's name, leaving spaces in between words, placing punctuation at the end of each sentence (period, question mark, or exclamation point), and spelling words correctly. The students are also continuing to listen to our class chapter book George Brown and the Class Clown. I will continue reading leveled books with the students in Guided Reading Centers. The children will also be taking part in activities, games, and chromebook lessons to practice words with magic e, forming words, writing short stories, and reading stories for fluency and comprehension.
Students will practice writing in their class notebooks daily following the Lucy Calkins' lessons. The children will participate in daily calendar time. We will continue our journey through unit 9 in math by practicing measurement, time, addition, subtraction, and money through whole class lessons and math centers. The kids will complete a "Scholatic News" magazine and carry on in our "America" unit in social studies. We will keep learning about living plants and animals in our world following our science curriculum and mystery doug science lesson videos.
Have an enjoyable Sunday and week ahead! Sincerely, Mrs. Zimmermann
