Students finished their "End of the Year" Math Assessments with me during Math Centers; we worked on three pages a day in small groups. The children got to also practice Math skills with number cards, base ten rods and cubes, white boards, dry erase markers, and erasers. Students also reviewed skills on "Everyday Math," "Brain Pop Jr. Math," and "IXL." On "IXL" we finished up Lessons 1 - 10 in Q, along with other First Grade Math Lessons during Math Centers. We also completed our Social Studies Unit on "America" by learning about our past presidents. Students took part in "ABC Countdown" daily activities.
We completed a "Scholastic News" magazine about lifeguards and how they keep us safe. Students learned about "ALICE" through a book / video / power point. We practiced forming compound words, recognizing short and long vowel sounds in words, and listened to our class chapter book, Katie Kazoo Switcheroo: Anyone But Me. Students practiced reading books at their reading levels in small groups with me and with partners, writing words with long e / long i / ck digraph in them, writing sentences correctly, reading stories and taking quizzes on "RAZ Kids," practicing reading skills on "ABC Mouse," working on reading and writing skills on "Brain Pop Jr. Reading and Writing," continuing reading and writing experiences on "ABC Ya," and "Starfall." The kids learned during our Mystery Doug Science video why we have eyebrows. We also had a great Skype session with the author, Luke Flowers.
This week we will continue Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science lessons and practice in small and large group activities. At the end of the week, all First Grade classes will be rotating throughout the day participating in Spring / Summer / Memorial Day activities. Also on Friday, Mrs. Evans' Kindergarten Class will be visiting our room. I hope you all have a great week and a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
