Hello, First Grade Families! Thank you for the wonderful gift basket yesterday. I really appreciate your kindness.
The kids worked so hard this past week. We finished our testing for our Trimester 3 report cards: STAR Reading, STAR Math, ESGI, Sentence Writing, Story Comprehension, and Fundations. We also completed our last Science experiment for the school year, and we finished Unit 9 in Math and Unit 11 in Fundations. Students also had their last "Checkout" time during Library for the school year. I am so proud of and amazed at the growth the children have shown this year academically, socially, and emotionally. :)
This week the children will be working on their "End-of-the-Year" Math assessment, finishing up their "America" Social Studies Unit, completing our next "Scholastic News," and completing our class chapter book we are reading together. Students will continue to read books at their reading levels, review sight words, and continue working on skills to form words and sentences. The students will also partake in "ABC Countdown" activities. We will have the last "Prize Patrol" for the school year in which students earn prizes based on the points they've earned from A.R. quizzes.
Our week will take an exciting turn as we Skype with the author, Luke Flowers. Three of our students, along with students from Kindergarten and other First Grade classes were chosen by Mrs. Mann, our Librarian, to ask Mr. Flowers questions they came up with. The chosen students will get to sit in the first row during the Skype session with him and the other Kindergarten and First Grade students. The kids are so excited!
We will be taking part in Recess, Lunch, Snack, P.E., Music, Computers, Art, and Library this next week. Have a relaxing and peaceful weekend. I think I'm just going to get some things done around home and do a little baking. Mrs. Zimmermann :)
