Hi, First Grade Families!
As I am typing this up this morning, I am live streaming the "EdmodoCon Miami 2019" teacher conference. It is focusing on social emotional skills and technology. I always tell my students that we all are constant learners; we never stop learning. I hope you're all having a great weekend!
The students took their Unit 4 Fundations Test and Unit 3 Math Test this past week. Students reviewed their letters, sounds, forming words by syllables, changing out beginning sounds to create new words, learning about glued sounds (all, am, and an), continued review of digraphs / consonants / vowels, writing / reading / saying unit / trick / sight words, reading our October Speed Read words on our class promethium board, reading leveled books, listening to "The Three Super Pigs" story read on a cd while they read along with the book, "RAZ Kids," "Funbrain," "PBSKids," bonus letter board game, practicing writing our alphabet letters correctly, writing sentences, listening to stories with our eyes closed and picturing the details in our minds like a movie, and writing our own stories tied to the stories we've read in class. The children reviewed their math skills of number recognition, counting, adding, and subtracting using a variety of strategies. Students also utilized "IXL," "Prodigy," "Everyday Math Games," and "Xtra Math." In Science, we watched a Mystery Doug video and viewed some videos on "Discovery Education" about our world. In Social Studies, students completed a "Scholastic News" magazine, attended an all school assembly on the Second Habit in "Leader in Me," and we watched various educational videos about our country and holiday traditions on "Discovery Education." The children had fun dressing up each day and celebrating Halloween with a party in our costumes!
We completed our first Trimester yesterday. Grades will be available on Skyward next week. Starting on Monday, the students will begin their new units in Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, and Writing. The children will be in new Reading and Math groups during our Guided Reading and Math Centers. We will have Prize Patrol next Thursday, celebrating the children's reading and taking and passing A.R. quizzes that check for reading comprehension. Have a good weekend! :) Get outside and enjoy the day, Mrs. Zimmermann
