I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. I know it was disappointing for many having the Homecoming parade canceled last Friday due to the weather, but I hope it allowed you some time to find some other fun activities to partake in for the afternoon and that you were able to enjoy the Homecoming game that night! Go Panthers! It has been a rainy and stormy weekend, but Mr. Zimmermann and I were able to try out a new restaurant, go grab a coffee at "3030," go to the "Clinton Apple and Pork Festival," get some work done, run some errands, and attend one of my students' birthday parties. All in all, it was a rainy weekend, but a good one. :)
Last week the children continued to practice letters and sounds to create words, onset sounds, medial sounds, and final / ending sounds. Students practiced reading and writing sight words, unit words, trick words, nonsense words, digraphs, simple sentences, and short stories. The children listened to me read them stories, read class library books and took A.R. quizzes on the books to check for understanding, read leveled books, practiced writing their alphabet letters correctly (we have reviewed Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, and Ii so far), completed cvc word and sentence / picture puzzles, listened to / read / took quizzes on leveled stories in "RAZ Kids," and completed activities in "Starfall."
The children practiced their daily Math lessons to continue working on addition and subtraction skills, recognizing and writing numbers correctly, and counting items. The children participated in daily warm up sessions on the promethium board, whole class Math lessons, and Math Centers to work on their class workbooks, took our Unit 2 Cumulative Tests, individual / partner / small group work reviewing number skills, and working on chrome books ("IXL" and "Everyday Math"). We will take our Unit 2 Math Assessments this coming week. Students practiced writing narrative stories, sharing stories with partners, asking prompting questions to help their partners add more details to their stories, had a writing museum walk around the room, and discussed writing and illustrative ideas they noticed from others' stories.
In Science, we traced around our shadow outlines with partners in the morning and the afternoon. We noticed where the sun was located during both parts of the day and how we had long shadows in the morning and short shadows in the afternoon. We watched Mystery Science Doug videos to continue learning about the Earth. In Social Studies, we completed Unit 1 on being "Responsible Citizens." We will take our Unit 1 Social Studies Test this coming week. We discussed focusing during class time and ignoring disruptions in our "Second Step" lesson. We attended an all-school assembly on Habit 1 "Be Proactive." We continue learning how to be good leaders and make great choices every day throughout the day.
Have an awesome week! Mrs. Zimmermann
