This week the children learned about digraphs, practiced counting up by 1s and 5s, worked on simple addition problems, utilized number grids and ten frames, learned about being respectful and responsible citizens, learned about the sun being out longer in the summer than in the winter, we continued working on writing our individual stories in our spiral notebooks, practiced letter sounds / words / sight words / simple sentences, listened to and read stories, began taking A.R. quizzes on books students have read, practiced being good listeners and speakers, participated in calendar and weather time, counted days we have been in school, and made pumpkin creations. The children practiced learning about the short "Ee" sound this past week, reviewed sight words, counted up by 1s, counted using number grids and ten frames, read / listened to / answered questions about various stories, worked on writing our stories, learned the difference between rules and laws, experimented with shadows and learned how our shadows change in size at different times of the day, had Calendar Time, put number and addition puzzles together, worked on IXL / RAZ Kids / Starfall / ABCYa, checked out library books, and had gym / music / art / computers / recess.
The children practiced the short "o" and "u" sound this week by reading various books and creating books with those letter sounds. Students took part in Second Step and Leader in Me social skill lessons. Students participated in Everyday Math lessons, worked on counting and number skills, and carried out a Science experiment finding different shadows in Discovery Science.
We spent time reading and listening to stories together, took Rocket Math timed tests, worked on IXL Math lessons, and learned about being responsible citizens in our Social Studies activities. We had Guided Reading and Math Centers, went to Specials (Library, Gym, Art, and Music), practiced our writing skills in Lucy Calkins' lessons, and went over letter sounds and word formation activities in Heggerty. Students had Calendar Time, had a fire drill, and enjoyed an afternoon of picnic food and games.

Happy Sunday! I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend! :) This past week the children worked on their Everyday Math, Rocket Math (Addition - Levels A and B), Heggerty (letter sounds and words), Calkins (Writing), Fundations (letters, sounds, and words), Sight Words, Teacher Led Reading, Calendar Time, Guided Reading Centers, Leader in Me and Second Step, Social Studies, Library (books are due back this Tuesday), Art, P.E., and Music.
We worked on counting up and down by 1s, using a number line and tally marks, recognizing and writing numbers, counting by 1s and 5s, counted how many days we have been in school, simple addition problems, and counting as high as we can go individually and as a class. We practiced writing letters, simple words, and sentences. We practiced being read to and answering questions about the stories, reading stories in our reading groups, completing reading activities (making short "A" and short "I" books), reading "A" and "I" stories, playing vowel and word bingo games, rolling letter dice and creating real and nonsense words on dry erase boards, using letter tiles / scrabble pieces / letter magnets / dry erase markers / dry erase boards to create words, reading classroom books, and tracing / writing our ABCs on small erasable cards.
We continued to talk about being Proactive, being good listeners, being kind to one another, treating others the way we would like to be treated, doing our best work, helping others, focusing, and being good learners. We figured out the day of the week and month, the weather, watered our class plants, were responsible and took care of our classroom by being classroom helpers, and continued practicing making good choices for ourselves.
